Al Gore, Global Warming, and the Presidency

In the May 28 issue of Time Magazine, the extensive article covering Al Gore raised the possiblility that Gore could use the global warming issue to win the presidency. The article noted that the American people are beginning to wake up to the dangers of global warming.

Gore would make an excellent president in my opinion. I share his views on global warming and on many other issues such as his disgust at the use of torture by U.S. forces. I also share his views that the survival of American democracy is in question.

On the other hand, I hate to see him run because we could lose him to the political process where he might have to compromise his views. It may be better if he stays out of office and tackles issues other than global warming with the same tenacity that he has used to publicize that issue. His performance on global warming shows that a person does not have to be in political office to accomplish things.

But who is better qualified to be president?
